I have never been especially interested in staying inside the category I was given.

Scientist, founder, educator in intellectual property and patent law, early participant in decentralized systems, systems strategist, builder of AI and identity infrastructure. Father. Climber. Writer. A person repeatedly forced to rebuild himself — and increasingly interested in building the structures that make rebuilding survivable.

My training is in the hard sciences — a doctorate in cellular biophysics, degrees in chemistry and chemical engineering — and I spent years inside intellectual property, teaching it and building the education infrastructure for the people entering the field. I was early to decentralized systems, and I have started, funded, and advised more ventures than I have kept. Each taught me something about how structure produces behavior.

What ties it together is not a field. It is a question. Across software, companies, symbolic systems, capital, and writing, I keep building at the same seam: the place where something living has been fragmented by the architecture around it. I am less interested in what a technology can do than in what kind of human system it quietly asks us to become.

The work is coherence — finding it inside complexity, and building the structures through which more life can emerge.

Under the projects is a model of the human system as something layered — read through several apertures at once, from the ground of the body up to the vision it serves. Soul Cartography is the attempt to make that model navigable. This is the shape of it, in miniature:
